More than 20 stewards attended a two-day Advanced Steward Training on June 7 and 8. During day one, they received SEA updates, a political update, a retirement update, and participated in a worksite mapping exercise and other activities designed to help them move forward as SEA leaders. On day two the SEA legal staff spent the day with the stewards and presented information about the appeals process and how they can better represent their peers. They also explored the concept of conducting consultations in an effort to avoid the grievance process. Much emphasis was placed on having productive, positive conversations to resolve workplace issues, as well as using the LMC to fix issues before things escalate to a formal grievance and/or discipline for members.
