Every once in a while, we like to think we could be ahead when it comes to news. So here’s the deal, could this be the weekend that GOP Candidate Mitt Romney selects a running mate?
On Monday, the New Hampshire Republican State Committee announced that it will host a media roundtable led by U.S. Senator Rob Portman at the NHGOP headquarters in Concord, NH. The event will take place on Saturday, July 7th, at 5:30 p.m. at 10 Water Street, Concord.
According to a press release, Portman will open with remarks about the political landscape heading into November elections and he will discuss the issues he sees as important to voters in 2012 and take questions from the media.
According to the Washington Post, Portman is “said to be on the short list” for Vice President. He currently represents Ohio in the United States Senate after his election in 2010 when he won with 57 percent and with the support of 82 of 88 counties.
Is it just coincidental that Portman is in the State the same week that NHGOP Nominee Mitt Romney and family are also in the state at their multi-million dollar lake front home in Wolfeboro?
Portman’s record in Congress, starting with his time in the House of Representatives, includes key roles on welfare reform in the 1990s and the balanced budget which passed in 1997. He also founded the Ohio’s Future PAC, a political action committee, and in 2008, he was cited as a potential running mate for Republican presidential candidate John McCain.
