Passage of SB 152 Means Jobs for Middle Class Workers

This is certain to be a pivotal week for SB 152, the bill that provides for expanded gaming in New Hampshire. The special joint House committee currently studying the Senate-passed legislation is expected to meet in executive session Wednesday at 1 p.m. to decide whether it ought to pass. Listed below are several opportunities for you to support this measure that will create new jobs and help fund essential state services.

The fact is, Granite Staters need jobs to support their families and contribute to our communities. SB 152 provides a means to accomplish that – opening one high-end casino will create thousands of NH jobs. If SB 152 succeeds, the state will not only benefit from job growth, it will also gain new revenue streams to improve funding for important priorities such as education, decent and safe roads and bridges, and much needed mental health services.

Expanded gaming is one of the preferred way to raise revenue, according to NH public opinion polling results. There is widespread support to raise this revenue so that critical services for our citizens and visitors can be maintained, and in some cases restored. We cannot continue our reliance on budget cuts as the sole remedy for infusing much needed revenue into our state’s coffers. Please join us in support of SB 152.

“The Bill O’Brien legislature didn’t deliver the jobs they promised, in fact they gutted or destroyed thousands,” said SEA President Diana Lacey. “This is the largest jobs bill we’ve seen in New Hampshire for several years and the Senate stepped up to the plate for this jobs bill and passed it. I really hope the House will follow suit.”

“People can’t wait forever for the thousands of jobs we need to create in NH,” she said.

We must quickly make our case to the NH House for why working men and women need SB152. We have a few ways you can contribute to the effort.
