If you haven’t been to a baseball game yet this summer, Monday, Aug. 26, might just be the perfect day to go.
That night you can join your fellow union members for dinner and a game in Manchester between the Fisher Cats and the Portland Sea Dogs. Tickets are $20 each and include food before the game, including barbecue staples such as hot dogs, burgers, baked beans and watermelon. If you’d like to attend this special Union Night, you can call Erick Lesniak at 606-4108 to buy tickets.
As some of you may know, the Fisher Cats are a minor league affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, but the Sea Dogs are an affiliate of the Red Sox so this is a chance to see some future Fenway stars in action.
“It’s a great opportunity to see some good baseball — including the Red Sox prospects and big league players on rehab assignments — without the hassle of traveling to Fenway Park,” said Ken Roos, an employee at DHHS and the SEA’s first vice president. Watching a game at Delta Dental Stadium is as comfortable as sitting in my living room, only it’s closer to the action.”
The SEA won’t be the only union in attendance for the game.
“It’s great to sit with members of the other New Hampshire labor unions, and we get recognized on the video screen in center field,” Roos said.
Laurie Aucoin, who works at New Hampshire Hospital and is the chapter president there, is hoping for a bigger turnout of fellow union members that night.
“I go to three or four games a year as the stadium is within walking distance from my home,” Aucoin said. “It’s an inexpensive way to enjoy a baseball game, have a cookout and connect with union members that we don’t always see in our daily jobs. I am sure I will attend again this year.”
