Former NH Representative James P. Pilliod, MD (R) passed away earlier this week at the age of 83. Rep. Pilliod practiced medicine, specializing as a pediatrician, in the Lakes region for 31 years before serving his first term as a NH State Representative in 1996. He held his state office for the next sixteen years before retiring from public service in 2012.
Rep. Pilliod was a great friend to public health and to public workers. He voted with labor on the recent Right to Work battles and similar issues, often voting against his party. He was known as always approachable and willing to listen to his constituents. Many SEA/SEIU Local 1984 members proudly worked on his numerous election campaigns.
“The world is minus one good person,” said Thea Aloise, a member of Chapter 1 who lives in the Lakes Region. “He was a man of humanity. I held him in high esteem because you could talk to him and he would listen. We have lost a good friend.” Thea frequently held signs at the polls in a show of support for the late legislator.
