Members, Family and Friends Took Part in Social Activities Committee Outing
SEA members, joined by friends and family, traveled to Mohegan Sun last weekend in an outing planned by the SEA Social Activities Committee.
Members said the all-day outing, which for $30 included bus transportation, a meal voucher and betting coupon, went well. Events such as this one give members a chance to connect outside of work in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. SEA member Melanie Doiron said she joined the group with the goal of having a fun day: mission accomplished.
“The bus ride down was fun, we watched movies,” she said. “I didn’t win anything, but it didn’t matter … that wasn’t the point. It was about having fun. You can become better connected with people when you’re just there to enjoy yourself.”
This wasn’t the first bus trip the Social Activities Committee has planned, and it likely won’t be the last.
“It went really well, and everybody seemed to have a good time,” said Tammy Clark, the chair of the Social Activities Committee. “One woman even won $1,200! The people who went enjoyed it and said they’d like to do it again.”
Clark said two members who were on the outing volunteered to help with the committee; another, she said, wants to take the lead in planning a bus trip to Foxwoods. Events like this, Clark said, bring the SEA back to its roots as a social organization. That has spurred Clark to work on a family-friendly outing this summer at Pemi River Campground.
“There’ll be tons of stuff to do,” she said. “You can rent kayaks, tubes, and canoes; they have mini golf, a playground and a beach, too.”
Even better for those who love the outdoors, there is space for overnight camping. You can read more about the Pemi River Campground at www.pemirivercampground.com. We’ll have a full story on the summer outing in the coming weeks in SEA News, along with reminders in SEA Notices.
