Martins Confirmed for New Term on NHRS Board

SEA Director Represents Retirement System Members

The Executive Council on Wednesday unanimously approved SEA Director Germano Martins for another term as an employee trustee on the New Hampshire Retirement System Board of Trustees. Martins has served on the board since June 2013, previously serving from 2006 to 2010.

The NHRS board is made up of four public employee representatives who are members in the system, including Martins, four employer representatives, four public representatives and one ex-officio representative. The board’s broad responsibilities are spelled out in detail in RSA 100-A. In his role on the board, Martins serves as the voice of public employees, which he said he is pleased to continue to do.

“This a responsibility I do not take lightly, there is a lot at stake with every decision we make,” Martins said.

He said there is a need for more representation of the members of the retirement system on the board.

“Going forward, I would like to see an increase in the level and rate of member participation in the decision making of their pension system,” Martins said. “The pension systems that perform the best in the nation are the ones in which members play a more active role. That’s where we need to be.”
