Veterans Appreciation Event Set at College

Lakes Region Community College Hosts Annual Event on Wednesday

The Lakes Region Community College Student Veterans’ Association welcomes members of the community for a Veterans Appreciation event at noon Wednesday. All are welcome to attend to help pay tribute to those who have served.

SEA member and LRCC faculty member Scott Cracraft, the adviser to the Student Veterans Association, said the event is held yearly, usually the day after Veterans Day as the college is closed. Cracraft, himself a veteran who served in Korea in the 1970s, has long been in charge of organizing the event.

“I’ve always been interested in taking care of and honoring those who’ve served,” he said.

The event will begin at noon on Wednesday in the Academic Commons with a moment of silence and the playing of Taps, followed by numerous speakers.

“I try to get people from the community to come and speak, and I also invite veterans from our student body, faculty and staff to attend,” he said.

On Wednesday, Cracraft said he expected that speakers would include three veterans of the Vietnam conflict in addition to three veterans who served more recently.

“I tell veterans to go up there and say whatever’s on their mind and in their heart,” Cracraft said.

Lakes Region Community College is at 379 Belmont Road, Laconia.
