I have worked in the Judicial system for over 10 years. I am writing to you because I want to clear a few things up with the employees asking for a raise. I’ve worked here for 10 years and I live in southern Rockingham County. My mortgage is $1,426.00 a month. I live in a very modest house (I bought it for $160,000.00). My car payment is $488.00 a month and I have two more years to pay on it. My cable bill is $140.00 a month; my Electric bill is $115.00 a month; my phone is $145.00 a month; and let us not forget heat. That runs over $200.00 a month in the winter and that is keeping my heat at 67 degrees.
Now if you add up these bills and this is just for the above bills it comes out to $2,026.00 so the above does not include my groceries, car insurance, medical bills or gas for my car or other expenses. My take home pay a month is $1,820.00
I work with about 30 people and there is a misguided idea that state employees make over $50,000.00 a year. I’m here to tell you this is not true. Besides management, nobody here makes more than $40,00.00 a year and the average is $30,000.00 to $35,000.00.
We are all just trying to survive in this world and even if I got $20.00 more a paycheck this would help me substantially.
Thank you for your time
