DHHS Raises Money for OSC, Food Bank

DHHS workers in the Brown Building held their second “Groovin’ on a Sundae Afternoon” ice cream fundraiser this week, bringing in money for both Operation Santa Claus and the NH Food Bank.

SEA/SEIU Local 1984 member Sara Kelly said the event raised $1,100, with the money being split between the two charities.

“Although we didn’t yield as many donations as last year’s event did, I think the event was still successful,” Kelly said. “Both Operation Santa Claus and the NH Food Bank will receive a donation in the amount of $550.”

This event was organized by a fund-raising committee at DHHS, which includes Kelly, Kathleen Desmarais, Elizabeth Maynard, Ken Roos, Nicola Whitley, Lacey Grendell, Jillian Schenck, Rick Hill and Michelle Rosenthal.

A representative from the NH Food Bank was on hand to help out, as was SEA/SEIU Local 1984 member Linda Farrell, who chairs the Operation Santa Claus Committee.

Commissioner Nicholas Toumpas of DHHS and Commissioner George Copadis of Employment Security were also there to lend a hand, or more precisely, a scoop.

In addition to helping hands, the event was helped by donations of ice cream from Arnie’s, Blake’s, Summer Freeze, and Ballard’s.

Thank you to all of the DHHS workers who put this event together, as well as everyone who stopped by. The $550 donation to Operation Santa Claus will help provide gifts for five children who would otherwise have gone without this Christmas.
