It’s been a roller-coaster of a week for Operation Santa Claus, in what is already typically a busy week for volunteers. On Monday, volunteers arrived to find someone had broken in and stolen thousands of dollars in gift cards and presents purchased for children in need. It was a bad start to the week, needless to say.

Things got better from there, though. The warehouse was bustling as sponsors shuffled in and out dropping off gifts, and volunteers logged and sorted thousands of packages. When news of the robbery broke, the community responded with donations big and small, helping to blunt any impact the robbery might have had on the children.

Then, on Thursday came word that two were arrested and charged in the robbery. We cannot thank the NH State Police and Concord Police enough for their diligent efforts.

This year, the program will help 3,000 children who otherwise would have gone without. The enormity of that undertaking — made possible thanks to our sponsors, donors and volunteers — vastly overshadows the bad actions of a few. Thanks to you, we were able to overcome and deliver on the mission we’ve been delivering on for 55 years. Thank you all.
