Phone Banks, Canvasses for Sanders Coming

The New Hampshire presidential primary is now just six weeks away. In these waning weeks of the campaign, we’ll be doing a good amount of work in support of our endorsed candidate, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.

If you haven’t gotten involved yet, but would like to, we’ll be canvassing with the Sanders campaign and making member-to-member calls here at the SEA/SEIU Local 1984 office.

We’ll be making calls (also known as phone-banking) every Tuesday and Thursday in January, starting on Jan. 5. If you’ve never taken part in a phone bank, it’s as simple as just talking on the phone. We’ll give you a script, show you how the system works, and you’ll be on your way. If you’re interested in taking part in any phone banks, you can email bhawkins@seiu1984.org.

If canvassing (going door-to-door) is more your style, we’ll be looking to get members together to go door-to-door with the campaign on two key dates – Jan. 9 and 16 – in Concord. Though the canvasses will be run by the campaign, we’re hoping to get a group of SEA/SEIU Local 1984 members to take part together. Canvassing, just like phone-banking, isn’t difficult. You’ll get training and a script before you’re sent out. If you’d like to take part in these canvasses, or in any others, you can sign up at berniesanders.com/volunteer.

We’ll continue work in support of Sanders right up until the election, with the last few days being focused on get-out-the-vote efforts.  With so little time left before the primary, you have the opportunity to make a big impact on the Sanders campaign. We hope you’ll join us.

A note on political contributions

SEA/PAC is a voluntary fund through which SEA/SEIU Local 1984 members can lobby and work to elect candidates who support working families. SEA/PAC is how we build power and expand our voice, and it’s the way we can have an impact on political issues and hold our elected officials accountable. With an election year approaching, it’s important to note that dues money is not and cannot be used for external political activities. SEA/PAC funds – and only SEA/PAC funds – can be used for the following:

  • Donations to political candidates – both Democrats and Republicans – who support working families
  • Advertisements on TV and radio, as well as mail sent to members
  • Organizing boots on the ground

If you’d like to start or change your contribution to SEA/PAC, you can do so here.
