Brad Asbury Retires After 15 Years with Organization
The last few months have seen numerous changes for the SEA/SEIU Local 1984 field staff, including a retirement and a promotion. With those changes, several worksites and agencies now have new field representatives. You can find a brief summary of the field representative changes below.
Earlier this year, Randy Hunneyman was promoted from field representative to Executive Branch negotiator (read more in related story). The agencies he represented were distributed among other members of the field staff. Then, last month, Organizing Administrator Brad Asbury retired after 15 years with the organization.
Asbury was a state employee and SEA/SEIU Local 1984 member before being hired in April 2001 as a field representative. He was eventually promoted to Field Activities Coordinator before rising to lead the Organizing Department.
“I had the chance to work with some inspiring people over the years,” Asbury said. “We faced some huge challenges along the way — healthcare reform and Right to Work to name a few — and we only succeeded because workers stood together. I’m happy I was able to play a small part in that.”
SEA/SEIU Local 1984 President Rich Gulla praised Asbury’s commitment to the organization and labor movement.
“Brad cared deeply about his work and working people, and this union is better off for his efforts,” Gulla said. “We wish him well in retirement and thank him for his years of service.”
In the interim, Sean Barrett of SEIU will lead the organizing department. You can reach Sean at 271-3411, ext. 123 or email@example.com.
