Educational Meetings Will Be Scheduled at CCSNH Campuses Ahead of Vote
This week, SEA/SEIU Local 1984 President Rich Gulla sent a letter to CCSNH full-time faculty members asking them to vote on the college’s most recent proposal to membership, without a recommendation from the collective bargaining team.
Negotiations have been at impasse for several months, but despite that, the SEA/SEIU Local 1984 bargaining team and CCSNH’s team have continued to meet and worked through some of the issues that stalled negotiations. While close to a full tentative agreement, our bargaining team has deadlocked on whether to accept the college’s last offer.
“Knowing that the last offer is acceptable to half of the team, and in fairness to the entire membership at large, as your representative, we have decided to send the last offer to the membership to decide without a recommendation from the team,” President Gulla wrote in the message.
Before the vote, SEA/SEIU Local 1984 will schedule a series of educational meetings at CCSNH campuses to help members make an informed choice on the college’s offer. There, members will have the opportunity to review the proposed changes and ask questions. We’ll work with chapter leaders to schedule these meetings.
The full-time faculty members’ contract — which previously covered both full-time faculty and staff — expired on June 30, 2015. Since that time, the staff have since negotiated and approved a new collective bargaining agreement. In his message, President Gulla wrote that SEA/SEIU Local 1984 “is a democratic organization that works from the ground up.”
“I trust that the wisdom is with you and your collective decision will have my complete support,” Gulla wrote.
