76th Annual Convention is this Saturday

Registration Begins at 8 a.m. at Wentworth by the Sea in New Castle

The 76th annual convention of SEA/SEIU Local 1984 is this Saturday at Wentworth by the Sea in New Castle. Registration for the one-day convention begins at 8 a.m., with the call to order coming at 9 a.m.

There are numerous guest speakers expected and there will be elections for five seats on the Board of Directors. Five members submitted nomination forms ahead of the deadline last month and will have their names printed on the ballot (you can see who they are here), but write-in candidates can also be nominated from the convention floor.

First Vice President Ken Roos, who chairs the Convention Arrangements Committee, said the final preparations are being made for a jam-packed agenda, and he looks forward to seeing all delegates on Saturday.

“It’s an opportunity for members to impact our organization going forward,” Roos said. “We’ll be electing five members of the Board of Directors, but we’ll also be hearing from committees and engaging in important discussions that affect the future of our organization.”

In previous election years, the convention would be two days, however a change made several years ago shifted the two-day convention to the off year. Roos said it’s a busy weekend for political volunteers and candidates, but the convention is an important opportunity for the union’s leaders to come together.

“At convention, we can show our camaraderie and our solidarity — things that have helped carry us through our first 75 years — while fulfilling your constitutional duties as convention delegates,” Roos said. “We hope you’ll be there with us on Saturday as we continue our next 75 years.”

The Wentworth by the Sea is located at 588 Wentworth Road in New Castle, which is roughly an hour from the Concord area located just off the coast of Portsmouth.
