Lori Shibinette was confirmed as the new deputy commissioner of the Department of Health and Human Services.

On Wednesday, the Executive Council unanimously approved the nomination of Lori Shibinette as deputy commissioner of the Department of Health and Human Services.

Shibinette started her career as a nurse at New Hampshire Hospital and was a member of Chapter 4 while she worked there. More recently, she’s been working as the administrator of the Merrimack County Nursing Home. As is customary with high-level state appointees, SEA/SEIU Local 1984 arranged a meeting with the nominee so members could meet her before the Council voted on the nomination.

Mary Fields, who’s the vice president of Chapter 45, Chair of the DHHS LMC and an SEA/SEIU Local 1984 Director, said she was impressed by Shibinette in meeting with her.

“She has a refreshing attitude, she’s a breath of fresh air,” Fields said. “She comes in with the ability and experience to do the hard work that will need to get done, but she’s not jaded.”

After the group met with Shibinette, members conferred and gave a recommendation to pass on to the Council.

“We recommended her with two thumbs up,” Fields said. “She’s honestly one of the better candidates I’ve seen put forth since I’ve been here.”
