This week, members should begin receiving election notices/forms for 2017 for chapter elections as well as a special election for the Board of Directors. Not all members will receive all the notices: for example, if your chapter is not having elections in 2017 (because you have a two-year election cycle), you will not receive the chapter elections notice.
The Notice of Chapter Elections form lists spots for President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer (or Secretary/Treasurer), Councilors and Alternate Councilors. If you’re interested in running for one of those positions, you’ll need to fill out the self-nomination form and return it to the SEA/SEIU Local 1984 office by close of business on Feb. 10. Write-ins are not allowed for chapter elections, so if you want to serve you’ll need to submit your nomination by the deadline.
The special election form for the Board of Directors is also a self-nomination form, but this one must be returned by close of business on Feb. 7. This election is to fill out the remainder of a board seat that is up for election next fall. The election will be held at the March Council meeting, and for this election, write-ins are allowed. However, if you want your name printed on the ballot, you’ll need to get your self-nomination form in before the deadline.
You can find the chapter election form here.
