General Statement of Duties
Performs legal and administrative work of a responsible nature in supporting the legal affairs of the Association. Work is performed with technical independence with respect to the exercise of legal judgment subject to review and direction by the General Counsel and review by President and the Board of Directors. Performs such other duties consistent with the individual's competency as may be required from time to time, by the General Counsel.
Supervision
Works under the general supervision of the General Counsel.
Supervision Exercised
Exercises some coordination of the Grievance Representatives including providing training, checking work and giving advice. Exercises some coordination of the Paralegal including checking work, completion of correspondence, scheduling of appointments, dissemination of information and special projects, all subject to the direction and oversight of the General Counsel.
Example of Duties
- Prepares and presents cases in NH Superior and Supreme Courts, National Labor Relations Board, Public Employees Labor Relations Board and before the State Personnel Appeals Board.
- Interpret labor law and contract language, analyze the application of labor law, administrative rules, and contract language.
- Research and present cases at arbitration
- Prepares legal opinions and advises staff in activities and the conduct of grievance cases.
- Participates in litigation, research, consultation and administrative hearings necessary to the final determination of legal questions involving specialized legal areas such as labor law and personnel rules.
- Attends and participates in meetings involving Association Staff, Board, Chapters, Workshops and other interested groups as may be assigned.
Desired Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited law school. Experience in relevant areas of legal practice is preferred. Also preferred: knowledge of administrative law and methods and practices pleadings; court procedures and rules of evidence; principles, methods, material and practices utilized in legal research. Experience in the trial of cases. Ability to speak and write effectively in the preparation and presentation of legal matters.
Special Requirements
- Admission by the Supreme Court of New Hampshire to practice in the State of New Hampshire; and, within one year of hire, admission to try cases before the Federal District Court of the District of New Hampshire and the First Circuit Court of Appeals.
- An insured, registered vehicle and a valid driver's license

Starting salary $ 26,000
