Dartmouth Works Because We Do!

Over 100 members of SEIU Local 560 and Local 1984 rallied at Dartmouth College on Wednesday Sept. 26, during the Democratic presidential candidates' debate held there.

Dartmouth Rally 2

A key issue was employee health care costs; although the college is flush with money, Dartmouth College employees (members of SEIU Local 560) are expecting to face proposals for higher employee health care costs in upcoming negotiations.

Another sore spot with the college is the status of tipped employees at the college-owned Hanover Inn.

When these workers take vacation time, they are paid only their base wage of $3.50 per hour - making vacations economically disastrous. Also, their credit toward retirement is at this same base rate, taking no account for their actual take-home pay due to tips - as a result, their retirement is severely short-changed.

Purple-shirted members of SEIU Local 560 were joined by members of our own SEA/SEIU Local 1984, holding signs such as "Dartmouth Works Because We Do" and "We Want Health Care, not Warfare."
