Discipline and Just Cause

In most of SEIU Local 1984's county, municipal, and private sector contracts, there is a clause requiring management to have "just cause" for disciplining employees.

Please note that not every contract has this clause.  Check  your contract carefully.  If your contract does not have the "just cause" clause, then much of the information in this section may not apply to you.

For units that do have this clause in their contracts, SEIU Local 1984 has created a booklet for training your union stewards, and we make it available to you here. 

Although this booklet is a useful educational resource for any union member, please keep in mind that it was written from the perspective of training union stewards.
