At its heart, Operation Santa Claus is a statewide effort, and there is no community in New Hampshire this program does not touch. From Nashua to Berlin and Portsmouth to Keene, OSC combines the efforts of SEA members and the community to brighten the holidays for thousands of children every year.
Operation Santa Claus was founded by the SEA in 1960, and in that first year, 14 children received gifts delivered by State Troopers. In the time since, OSC has expanded to help as many as 3,000 children across the Granite State yearly.
Caseworkers at the state Department of Health and Human Services identify children and families that need assistance and suggest what the children need and want. From there, OSC committee members coordinate to match up the children with sponsors, who shop for gifts for the kids. Once the gifts are purchased and wrapped, sponsors drop them off at DHHS district offices or at a central location in Concord, where volunteers sort the packages in preparation for delivery to district offices across New Hampshire.
None of this happens without the help of people like you. Your continued involvement ensures this program will continue to brighten Christmas morning for New Hampshire children for years to come.
