Conservative Member Committee

The Conservative Voice AugustTo be conservative is to not to be afraid to say you believe in God; to believe you should work for what you get; to honor your country, your community, and your family. – Ray Sholtz, union member in SEIU video

Mission

The SEA/SEIU Local 1984 Conservative Members Committee gives members an avenue to address issues facing the SEA using a conservative-centric approach and perspective. Working within the structure of the SEA, we support conservative elected officials at the Legislature and work with them to pass SEA- friendly legislation. The committee gives conservative voting members structure as we engage our power to help our union, families, communities, and state.

Vision

In partnership with the SEA, the conservative member committee aims to:

  • Increase awareness of conservative issues within the SEA and the public
  • Influence the SEA to be more representative of the membership
  • Use our vast membership base to boost wages, benefits and working conditions
  • Drive a thoughtful, creative, and focused political agenda through increased lobbying efforts with conservative politicians at the Legislature

Dennis Etchells, chair of the Conservative Member Committee, speaking at the December Council meeting encouraging members to join. Dennis was also the recipient of the 2018 Ray Proulx award which recognizes a member’s dedication and expertise to advance the principles of our union through political action.
